History

The Dos Corazones – Festivalito Milonguero was founded in 2023 by Melina Sedó and Detlef Engel in Saarbrücken, Germany. This unique event emerged from a desire to create a welcoming space for tango dancers who embrace both leading and following roles, promoting a culture of role parity in Argentine tango. The festivalito was designed to foster a relaxed atmosphere where participants could connect deeply through dance, while also enjoying the traditional elements of milongas, such as the civilised ronda and respectful invitations through mirada and cabeceo. The inaugural edition took place at the Acting and Arts venue, attracting around 100 dancers and staff dedicated to maintaining high dance quality.

As the festivalito evolved, it quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach to tango dancing. The first edition featured a variety of workshops and milongas, with notable DJs like Patrycja Kaminska and Tara Thurau providing the music. The event's format encouraged dancers from across Europe and the USA to explore both roles, reflecting the growing trend of double-rolers in the tango community. The success of the initial event laid the groundwork for future editions, with plans to expand the offerings and enhance the overall experience for participants.

The second edition of Dos Corazones is scheduled for January 3-5, 2025, and promises to build on the success of the first. This upcoming event will continue to feature workshops led by Sedó and Engel, alongside a lineup of talented DJs, including Irma Handwerker and Sam Joachim. The festivalito aims to further promote the concept of open-role-close-embrace dancing, encouraging participants to embrace their versatility on the dance floor. The third edition, set for January 2-4, 2026, is already generating excitement, with plans for new workshops and a vibrant social atmosphere.

Despite its relatively recent inception, Dos Corazones has quickly established itself as a significant event in the Argentine tango scene, known for its commitment to inclusivity and role parity. The festivalito not only serves as a platform for dancers to hone their skills but also fosters a sense of community among tango enthusiasts. As it continues to grow, Dos Corazones is poised to become a staple in the international tango calendar, attracting dancers eager to experience its unique blend of tradition and innovation.
