Milonga Gala

The Milonga Gala, also known as the Alegría en Brzeg, is a vibrant celebration of Argentine tango that began in 2018 in Brzeg, Poland. This festival was initiated by the Tango-Si Foundation, led by prominent figures in the tango community, including Ewa Maria Sikorska, Andrzej Sikorski, and Anna Chojnacka-Komorowska. The festival was born out of a desire to create a joyful space for tango enthusiasts to gather, dance, and celebrate their passion for this expressive art form. The inaugural edition attracted a modest yet enthusiastic crowd, setting the stage for what would become a beloved annual event in the region.

Over the years, the Milonga Gala has evolved significantly, transitioning from a local gathering to a well-regarded regional festival. The festival's format has expanded to include multiple milongas, workshops, and performances, allowing participants to immerse themselves fully in the tango experience. The 12th edition in 2019 marked a notable milestone, featuring seven milongas and a total of 30 hours of music, showcasing the festival's growth and popularity. The festival has seen several notable editions, with highlights including the 12th edition in 2019, which featured renowned tango musicians and dancers, and the 14th edition in 2021, which offered workshops led by esteemed tango teachers such as Luiza and Marcelo Almiron. The festival's reputation for quality programming and a welcoming atmosphere has solidified its place in the hearts of tango lovers. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the cancellation of the 13th edition in 2020, the festival has bounced back, continuing to thrive and adapt to the changing landscape of event hosting.

Today, the Milonga Gala stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of tango and community. With its upcoming 17th edition scheduled for June 28-30, 2024, the festival promises to deliver another unforgettable experience filled with dance, music, and camaraderie. As it continues to grow, the Milonga Gala remains a significant cultural event in Brzeg, attracting both local and international participants who share a passion for tango and the joy it brings to their lives.
